The FAI BENE primary school was conceived in an open, constraint-free site and takes shape from a square, rotated and repeated to generate a diamond-like figure that engages with the multiple horizons of the surrounding landscape. Each side of the building establishes a unique relationship with the outdoors, transforming the whole into a fluid system of indoor and open-air learning spaces. Completing the setting, an artificial dune shaped with the excavated soil wraps around the school as a protective landscape, defining a sequence of educational, sports, recreational and play areas that enrich the students’ daily experience. The building volume, shaped by connecting pathways, opens through three main entrances and is organized around a double-height agora, the true heart of school life. Here, the auditorium, canteen, laboratories, gym and classrooms converge in a flexible system that allows spaces to extend towards the agora or the outdoor courtyards, accommodating teaching activities, events and community gatherings even beyond school hours. The bond with nature is ever-present: large operable windows project learning activities outdoors, while circular skylights bring natural light into the core of the building. The architectural profile stands out for its dynamic roofline, varying in height and alternating textured sand-colored plaster with translucent polycarbonate surfaces in shades of blue, evoking the reflections of the sea and conveying a luminous, contemporary image. Outside, educational gardens, play areas, open-air classrooms, a theater and sports facilities intertwine with the green dune embracing the school, offering opportunities for learning, leisure and social interaction. The new school thus becomes a true community hub, where architecture and nature merge to create an inclusive, innovative and strongly identity-defining environment.
